Improvements, Incidents, and Incubators

What up guys, this one is going to be a bit short, as instead of writing this blog last night, I played Ori and the Blind Forest! Also, I’m not in my usual office, more on that later!

First up: I actually got around to doing some work on the visuals of Horde! It’s nothing special, but I was sick of seeing default textures and the boring clear colour background. I’ve recorded the session, but I still need to cut it together, so watch the socials for that coming out. Want to see the result though? Alright, here it is!

Apologies for the quality, Unity didn’t want to play ball today.

The focus was to try and tidy up the UI, which I did. It still needs tweaking, probably some serious palette work, and I forgot to swap out the settings button for the new icon so I’ll need to get on that, but it does look less “default” now.

However, the elephant in the room is definitely the background. We have some seriously tiny barricades, zombies and humans. I may have forgotten to check the scale! It’s OK though, it’s just to stop it looking so… bland. The main downside, is that the drag area is way less clear now, so I need to work out how to make that more obvious!

In SockMonkey news, we’re… still working hard on their projects. There’s actually not a huge amount of news. Although, we did have a lot of fun yesterday when their entire git repository went into meltdown. It took a good few hours and much headscratching, resulting in me getting the broken project wholesale from another coder, and merging it into my version to get his changes to commit to the server. It was a whole thing. Still, it’s resolved now.

And finally, where am I? Well, a guy I spoke to at a networking event reached out to me about working in their space for a day, and discussing possibilities, ways that they can help us, and potential to get involved in the tech community in Sheffield, so I said I’d drop by and see what the deal is! So here I am:

My office for the day!

It’s a place called Kollider Eagle Labs, which is an incubator owned by (or at least sponsored by) Barclays. I’m sure I’ll let you know how it goes! In the meantime, I’ve forgotten my mouse, but remembered my drawing tablet, so I’m about to get a whole bunch more familiar with that! Oh, and I also forgot my USB-C cable, so I hope my phone battery holds out…

Wish me luck!
Matt out.

  1. I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article.
